People our age should note that Chiara was from "our times" (born 1971). She was "like us" in so many ways in her youth, before the osteosarcoma struck her at the age of 18. She had a profound faith, and she also played sports, struggled with math in school, fell in love (and got her heart broken), and liked pop music, Bruce Springsteen, etc.
Saints don't have to be from 500+ years ago. Many from our own times have entered eternal life in recent years, and many still live exemplary and inspiring lives right in front of us. God has not abandoned our world, our times, our generation. He does not condemn us, but rather sends us "signs" that meet us where we are and witness to the unconquerable glory of His love.
